If you’ve moved in the past year, then we urge you to send out some holiday cards this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to give the people you love your new address, and let them know that you bought a new pad. Plus you’re knocking 2 things off that list…sending new home announcements & sending a holiday card! That’s snail mail efficiency at its finest.

Just recently a friend of ours bought a lake house in the woods of Wisconsin. She kept her house in the Chicagoland area, but was excited to use this second property to relax, entertain, and make new memories on the weekends and throughout the summer.
As much as she wanted to move-in and start enjoying this space immediately, she had some work to do before it was “move-in ready”. To top it off, she works Monday through Friday near her primary residence in Chicago, which kept her from traveling up to Wisconsin and getting these jobs done immediately. She was limited to making this new property her “home away from home” on the weekends, when she would physically travel up to the new property and get to work. (more…)

My husband and I recently bought our first home and we are so excited to grab those keys and move on in! But before we start unpacking, we’re planning to do a good DEEP CLEAN of our new pad. Now don’t get me wrong, the past owners took phenomenal care of the house (even our home inspector was impressed!). However, there’s just something about starting with a fresh, clean slate in a space that makes it well worth any extra effort. Plus, it’s going to be a heck of a lot easier to clean an EMPTY place.

A friend of ours recently bought a house in which the previous homeowner was an avid smoker… meaning their new house reeks of cigarette smoke. The smoke smell was so severe that she and her husband actually got a great deal on the property. They loved the price but they definitely do not love the looming smell of smoke, especially since these newlyweds have a baby on the way. Before they move into their new place, they want to make sure they remove the disgusting smell and create a space that is safe for their growing family.
