Hosting an At Home Wedding

Although having a wedding at your home may sound intriguing, it comes with its own unique difficulties and hidden costs. In fact, at-home weddings are generally anywhere from 10-15% more expensive than location weddings.

Even if you plan on holding the festivities outside, you will need to clear a few large spaces inside your home. We recommend using a self-storage finder to locate an affordable storage locker for housing the excess furniture. Also, be prepared for inclement weather. Renting a large tent can certainly help, but be ready to entertain at least a portion of your guests inside.

Neighborhood Logistics

Remember to tell your neighbors about the wedding well in advance. If you are particularly close with them, maybe they will let some of your guests park on their property.  Also, look into whether or not you need to get a permit for the noise. You don’t want the police showing up at your doorstep citing noise ordinance violations.

Wedding Planner

Weddings take an incredible amount of planning – bartenders, catering service, tent service, musicians. You really shouldn’t try to do everything yourself. We recommend that you hire an experienced wedding planner to help with all the logistics.

Portable Restrooms

The general train of thought behind portable restrooms is that you should have 1 for every 35 guests. Although these restrooms sound rather unappealing, they can actually come equipped with a great deal of amenities, including air conditioning, heated water, lighting, and mirrors.

Transportation and Housing

Unless you are hosting an extremely small wedding at a mansion, in all likelihood, you will need to provide transportation for your guests, be it in the form of a shuttle or a cab service. Also, be sure to book the hotel accommodations well in advance so you can lock in an affordable group rate.

At-home weddings can be particularly heartwarming, but it’s important to acknowledge that they’re usually not cheaper than other weddings, nor do they require any less planning.
