It’s that time of year… spring cleaning time! We will admit that we actually love this springtime tradition. It’s a chance to get rid of old items, revitalize your space and make your home sparkle like new!
But what we don’t love is the amount of time it takes to thoroughly clean and organize your home from top to bottom. Just the thought of wasting a weekend indoors when it’s sunny and warm outside makes us a little bummed.
If you don’t want to spend all of your time cleaning, we suggest trying these spring cleaning shortcuts to get the job done quickly!
Create The Smart Cleaning Caddy

Instead of running around looking for the right cleaning supply for your task, create your little cleaning caddy. This should be something you can easily carry around from room-to-room. Inside put all of the necessary sprays and cloths to get every cleaning task done, like:
- Soft Sponge
- Disinfectant Spray
- Glass Cleaner
- At least two rags
- Tile Scrubber
- Swiffer Duster
Trust us, this is way easier than just running back and forth between cabinets all the time.
Multiple Floors? Make it Easy on Yourself!
If you live in a home with more than one floor, just do this: Put a basket by the stairs and fill it up with items that need to go either upstairs or downstairs. That way you’re not getting a stair master workout when you’re running items up, down and all over the house! When you’re done, you can just make one trip to that level and you’ll have all of the items you need to put away.
Work smarter, not harder.
Create a Donation Box
This is an item most people don’t think to make, but it’s a huge way to combat clutter before it even happens.
Go back through those same rooms and quickly go through your drawers and closets looking for items to donate. We’re not suggesting that it’s time to remove everything and organize these spaces. Instead, you’re just looking for items that you can get rid of immediately. Try to remove at least a few items from every single room.
Put A Designated Trash Bag In Every Room First
While you’re going through these rooms, you may have items that simply need to be trashed. Keep that trash bag with you throughout your entire spring cleaning day, as you’ll also need it when it comes time to start cleaning.
Clean Rooms In This Order: Top to Bottom
Now that things are tidier and a few items are purged, it’s time to actually start cleaning! We suggest working from top to bottom since dust can fall to the ground. Start at your ceiling fan, move onto dressers and other surfaces, and then do your floors. If you don’t remember to do this, you’ll be pulling double duty.
Make it, You Know, Fun!
Okay, this tip won’t exactly make your cleaning experience move faster, but it will make it more enjoyable. Turn on some tunes, open up the windows, and have some fun while you give your house a refresh. The day will be a heck of a lot better if you just lean in and make the most of it.
Plus, we highly suggest offering yourself a reward at the end of a long day of spring cleaning. A pizza? A cocktail? A movie? As long as it has you excited to complete this cumbersome task, go for it!
