Painting a room can instantly transform the look, feel, and style of any space. Heck just by adding a fresh coat of paint, you can make an old, grungy room look new again and make your new home reflect your style right from the very start.

Because paint adds an immediate sense of freshness and personal style, we highly recommend all new homeowners paint what they can when they move into their new space. We also recommend painting your space right away if you bought your house or apartment from a smoker (more details on that in this post), but that’s another story. (more…)

A Cold-Weather Cash Play: Keep Your Crews in the Game All Winter

In the dead of winter, especially for those of us living in chillier climes, business can be as sluggish as a hibernating bear. (This year at least we northerners have the consolation of having 9 of the 12 NFL playoff teams to root for – only Carolina, Arizona and Houston play in warm weather regions.)

So how to keep those trucks warm and your men busy?

A guy named Joe has a simple idea.

Joe Paris, who runs the (rather uncreatively-named) Joe Paris Moving Company, is offering a winter discount to any and all customers who book a move, residential or corporate, through his company’s website. All they need to do is use a special promotional code when they book (because Joe digs that sort of thing).

The interesting point to note here is that Joe Paris operates in Fort Worth, Texas, where the temperature rarely dips below Tony Romo’s quarterback rating and most movers in the area are more worried about seeing Johnny Manziel in a Cowboys uniform than running out of anti-freeze. Yet Mr. Paris is promoting his “Winter 30” deal – 30% off any move (up to a certain dollar amount) for a limited time.

Maybe Texas does get as chilly as Tony Romo’s numbers.

But more so for those of us in the northern parts of the country, where the temps are dropping and the playoffs are still a recent memory, it may be a good idea to take a page from Joe Paris’s playbook. Wherever and however you advertise – and if you aren’t advertising, this may be a good reason to start – call out your own winter discount.
You may find a few new customers to help shake off the sluggish winter months.

Which really helps if you bet the farm on the Patriots…
