These Are the Newest, Coolest Kitchen Designs

Posted in: I'm Moving, Home Decorating, Home Improvement

They say the kitchen is the “heart of the home” and we couldn’t agree more. Even though we both can barely cook scrambled eggs and have burned our fair share of grilled cheese sandwiches (true story), we still l-o-v-e kitchen spaces. We don’t necessarily love to cook in these spaces, but we love to admire them. And because of this admiration, we’ve noticed some trends pop up over the last couple years. So whether you’re looking at a future kitchen remodel, or you simply like some good eye candy (I mean who doesn’t?!), we’re sharing seven of the latest kitchen trends.

1. Two Tone Kitchen Cabinets

The all white kitchen look is out. Instead, many kitchens are seeing the “tuxedo effect.” Often times that means lighter upper cabinets, paired with darker lower cabinets. We adore this look because it gives you a chance to showcase some variety and depth in this space.

2. Open Shelving

This trend has been around for quite some time now, and we think it offers a great chance to really show off your personality in the kitchen. Open shelving offers the perfect opportunity to showcase pretty dishes, family recipes, or even your growing cookbook collection. But we will say, you should only incorporate this trend if you keep those shelves styled and looking good. If not, your kitchen will look like a bit of a mess.

3. Tile All the Way Up

Why just tile the backsplash, when you can tile all the way to the ceiling?! Genius. We are obsessed with this new look as it makes kitchens appear bigger and more grandiose. If you want to keep things simple, consider going with a classic subway tile all the way to your kitchen ceiling. This will take your kitchen space to the next level, and it’s pretty darn budget-friendly since subway tile is one of the most inexpensive options out there.

4. Secret Storage

Kitchens are becoming much SMARTER with drawers, cabinets, and cupboards to hold just about anything. Customized cabinets aren’t just for the extremely wealthy, big box stores like Ikea now offer smart cabinetry that can make cooking a heck of a lot easier. From soft close cabinets to pull-out drawers and hidden trash cans… the secret storage options are endless!

5. Quartz over Granite

Move over granite, there’s a new countertop in town! Unlike high-maintenance granite and marble, quartz is stain-resistant and doesn’t require any sealing. Plus, it’s more durable and less likely to chip or scratch. But the best part? Manufacturers can now give quartz that natural stone look that homeowners crave.

6. Touch Activated Faucets

We are definitely on-board with this kitchen trend, so much so that we installed a touch faucet in Bridget’s kitchen (which you can read more about here)! Why get your faucet handle all sticky and dirty when you can simply tap it on and off with a small touch of your hand? There are lots of awesome touch faucets on the market these days, and we love anything to make your home a little more tech-savvy.

7. Statement Lighting

Gone are the days when itty bitty pendants hang over a kitchen island. Now, it’s all about being bold and BIG! You can make a statement with your kitchen lighting and large pendants, baskets and even chandeliers. Take your kitchen from blah to beautiful, with the addition of some new statement lighting.

So there you have it, a look at the seven kitchen trends we are absolutely loving this year! Now the big question..which one do you want to incorporate in your home?
