Moving house without a hand truck – or a moving dolly – is like riding a bicycle without a seat. It’s technically possible, but honestly, who does that?

A sturdy, reliable hand truck is any mover’s best friend. Used properly, it saves you time, rescues your back and it can singlehandedly keep your stuff from getting damaged.

(Thinking of a square furniture dolly?)

But they’re not as easy to use as they look, provided you are using them in the proper way. With that in mind, here are tips compiled by moving pros as to how to optimize that hand truck you found in the back of your moving truck, or that one your friend let you borrow and you don’t want to return broken.

I am a self-proclaimed organized person. Open my pantry, peek in my coat closet, heck you can even investigate my bathroom vanity and I’m pretty very confident you are going to find orderly spaces with a lot of neatly labeled bins.

Even though we’re two home decor enthusiasts (who spend way too many hours browsing the aisles of HomeGoods and hitting up estate sales), we both live in pretty small spaces. Bridget lives in a small ranch in the suburbs of Chicago, while I have a 1,200 square foot condo downtown. Because we live in tight quarters, we’re forced to pare down the stuff in our homes on a regular basis and that is a-okay in our playbook.

Living small is big these days! People are doing their best to live with less, and we are big fans of this newfound minimalism. If you’re looking to get rid of the clutter and pare down to the essentials, we are here to help! Here’s how we stay organized in our small homes…without compromising style. (more…)

Tips for a Moving Container MoveAbout a year ago, my husband and I packed up all of our belongings and moved from St. Louis to our current apartment in Chicago.  We rented a PODS container and we used HireAHelper for the “muscle” portion of our move. I’m not saying it was a good time, because is moving ever really fun? But it actually wasn’t too incredibly painful, and we both lived to tell the tale. In fact, we detailed our moving escapade right here on the HireAHelper blog. (more…)

How Self-Storage Can Impact Your Life and the Community

I began the process of relocating from Texas to Decatur, Georgia with my husband last year. Attempting to pack the many items that we owned, I realized that I had two options – sell the excess stuff or store it. I went online in search of a storage facility located near our new place and decided to go with StoragePost.

I think it’s important to choose a storage facility where you feel comfortable visiting. The aspects that ultimately influenced my decision were the location, amount of security, and the climate-controlled conditions. If you’re anything like me, you may also be curious to know which companies give a portion of their profits to charity. After searching online, I came across details of the community events that StoragePost takes part in.
