Just recently a friend of ours bought a lake house in the woods of Wisconsin. She kept her house in the Chicagoland area, but was excited to use this second property to relax, entertain, and make new memories on the weekends and throughout the summer.
As much as she wanted to move-in and start enjoying this space immediately, she had some work to do before it was “move-in ready”. To top it off, she works Monday through Friday near her primary residence in Chicago, which kept her from traveling up to Wisconsin and getting these jobs done immediately. She was limited to making this new property her “home away from home” on the weekends, when she would physically travel up to the new property and get to work. (more…)

My husband and I recently moved into a new home and on our closing day we found a few things waiting for us in our new home. No not random items that the previous homeowners accidentally left behind. Instead, they left us with some thoughtful and extremely helpful items that made our first few days of homeownership that much better. (more…)

We are all about snail mail. I mean who doesn’t love opening up their mailbox to be greeted with mail from friends & family…instead of another bill or catalog?! It’s safe to say we’re all heart-eyed-emojied for snail mail and we’ll use any excuse to whip out our address books and stamps. (more…)

I believe that every move has its challenges. Whether you’re moving across town, or across the US, boxing up your entire life and transporting it to another location can be rough. My last move falls into the former category, as my husband and I had to move less than 5 miles from our apartment to a newly purchased condo. Even though this was the shortest moving distance we’ve ever tackled (check out our St. Louis to Chicago move here), it was still an exhausting process. (more…)

My husband and I recently bought our first home and we are so excited to grab those keys and move on in! But before we start unpacking, we’re planning to do a good DEEP CLEAN of our new pad. Now don’t get me wrong, the past owners took phenomenal care of the house (even our home inspector was impressed!). However, there’s just something about starting with a fresh, clean slate in a space that makes it well worth any extra effort. Plus, it’s going to be a heck of a lot easier to clean an EMPTY place.
Here’s our new house cleaning list to get our new home looking and smelling good! (more…)

A friend of ours recently bought a house in which the previous homeowner was an avid smoker… meaning their new house reeks of cigarette smoke. The smoke smell was so severe that she and her husband actually got a great deal on the property. They loved the price but they definitely do not love the looming smell of smoke, especially since these newlyweds have a baby on the way. Before they move into their new place, they want to make sure they remove the disgusting smell and create a space that is safe for their growing family.
Here are the tips that they vowed worked best for them: (more…)
